  Esther was born June 18, 1913, at Lake Henry, Minnesota, daughter of Martin Jahn and Rose Mary Miller. She attended school at Walnut Grove and Norwood, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Pharmacy.

On June 18, 1936, in Norwood, she married a college classmate, James Philip Moran, son of Martin Moran and Agnes Mulligan. Jim was born June 24, 1910, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They purchased a drug store in Delano, Minnesota, and operated it until their retirement. They divided their time between Clear Lake, Minnesota, in the summer and Mesa, Arizona, in the winter, until Jim's death on February 12, 1994. Besides her husband, Esther outlived her younger brother and sister and one of her sons; she died March 20, 2011, at the age of 97.

Esther and Jim's children:

1. Thomas James, born August 19, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Married July 22, 1961, in Delano to Edith Marie Bauman, born in Minneapolis October 2, 1938, daughter of George Bauman and Theresa Muckenhirn.

   1. Catherine Marie, born September 18, 1962. Married Ron Chmiel on July 18, 1992.

      1) Rebecca Jane Chmiel, born December 3, 1994.
      2) Theresa Ann Chmiel, born December 3, 1994.
      3) Mathew Adam Chmiel, born August 3, 1998.

   2. Margaret Ann, born November 18, 1963. Married Thomas Guinan June 24, 1995.

      1) Thomas Francis Guinan, born May 10, 1996.
      2) Patrick Michael Guinan, born April 14, 1998.
      3) Ann Margaret Guinan, born January 7, 2002.

   3. Mark Thomas, born August 29, 1966, in Minneapolis. Married on May 22, 1999, in Boulder, Colorado, to Heather Lynn Burandt, born November 10, 1969, in Sasebo, Japan, daughter of Gary Edward Burandt and Harriet Frances Krumrey.

      1) Emma Irene Moran, born September 21, 2001, in Maplewood, Minnesota.
      2) Colin Matthew Moran, born January 20, 2005, in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

   4. Michael Thomas, born August 29, 1966, in Minneapolis. Married Julie Bull on May 29, 1993.

      1) Clare Katherine Moran, born November 29, 1997.
      2) Kate Moran, born February 2000.
      3) Michael Moran, born August 20, 2001.
      4) Matthew George Moran, born April 2005.

   5. Kevin James, born June 1, 1973. Married September 25, 2009, to Stephanie McCracken.

   In July 2004, Tom was married to Marcia Aspinall.

2. Robert John, born March 16, 1940, in Minneapolis. Married July 16, 1966, in Singapore, Malaysia, to Winsome Lim Yit Hui, daughter of Ou Young Soon Hian and Lim Sem Choo. Bob and Winsome live in Middletown Springs, Vermont.

   1. James Robert, born July 7, 1973.

3. Richard Martin, born September 16, 1944 in Minneapolis. Married in Los Angeles, California, October 7, 1973, to Jenne Kathryn Hosler, born May 22, 1950, daughter of Robert Hosler and Kathryn Cannon.

   1. Carmen Miriam Hosler-Moran, born June 16, 1976, in Los Angeles. Married Clifford Robert Fonda, December 31, 2000, in Baltimore.

4. Donald Martin, born September 16, 1944, in Minneapolis. Married in Delano June 22, 1968, to Barbara Lee Leiter, born in Minneapolis, November 28, 1946, daughter of Edward Anthony Leiter and Lois Madonna Rivard. Died of cancer June 25, 2007, in Hopkins, Minnesota.

   1. Brian Donald, born October 18, 1969, at the U.S. Marine Corps base in 29 Palms, California.

   2. Betsy Lee, born March 2, 1972, in Minneapolis. Married June 17, 2000, to Daniel Paul Stolfa, born February 10, 1972, in Sycamore, Illinois, son of Richard Anthony Stolfa and Judith Lee Graf.

      1) Charlotte Lee Stolfa, born December 15, 2001, in St. Paul.
      2) Chloe Jane Stolfa, born May 26, 2004.

   3. Megan Kathryn, born June 11, 1975, in Minneapolis.
