Jerry was born December 29, 1919, in Paynesville,
Minnesota, son of Frank Jahn and Francis Hartman,
and twin brother of Geraldine. He attended elementary and high
school in Paynesville. Jerry served in the Army during World War
II, earning the Bronze Star, Victory Medal and European Theater
Medal.
On June 19, 1948, in Yankton, South Dakota, he
married Mary Catherine Smith, a teacher, born August 15,
1913, to James Francis Smith and Inez Loyola Gabel.
Jerry and Mary led a nomadic life during his 36
years with the National Geodedic Survey, with work assignments
throughout the United States. After Jerry retired in 1977, they
lived in Phoenix, Arizona.
