  Jerry was born December 29, 1919, in Paynesville, Minnesota, son of Frank Jahn and Francis Hartmann, and twin brother of Geraldine. He attended elementary and high school in Paynesville. Jerry served in the Army during World War II, earning the Bronze Star, Victory Medal and European Theater Medal.

On June 19, 1948, in Yankton, South Dakota, he married Mary Catherine Smith, a teacher, born August 15, 1913, to James Francis Smith and Inez Loyola Gabel.

Jerry and Mary led a nomadic life during his 36 years with the National Geodedic Survey, with work assignments throughout the United States. After Jerry retired in 1977, they lived in Phoenix, Arizona. Mary died in 1997, and Jerry died May 25, 2008, in Bellevue, Washington. He is remembered by his family as a kind and generous man who gave wholeheartedly to his family, church and community.

Jerry and Mary's children:

1. Rodney Allen, born March 2, 1950, in Gladewater, Texas; married Barbara Ann Benson April 1, 1972, in Los Angeles, California.

   1. Ian Michael, born March 25, 1973.

   Married Jacqueline Good Bowman.

   2. Jaret Tyson, born May 16, 1978. Married to Fiona, May 2015.

      (1) Austin Jahn, born July 2014.

   Rodney married Maureen Kevany in 1988, at which time Maureen's daughter Sarah became part of their family. Rod died in Crescent City, California, on June 23, 2013.

2. Gregory Lee, born July 5, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Greg had one daughter:

   1. Angela Pereguin Cazel Jahn, born December 30, 1970, to Patricia Jean Cazel. Married Robert Larson.

      (2) Madeline (Madi) Larson, born September 17, 1995.

      (3) Jasper Rose Larson, born March 24, 1999.

   Greg married Margaret (Peggy) Hagopian in 1999.

3. Joseph Frank, born February 12, 1953, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida; married Nancy Lee Knapp, December 19, 1972.

   1. Nathan Paul, born August 12, 1978. Nate and Brandy Michele Wagner were married July 31, 2005, and have three children:

      (1) Mackenzie Faith Jahn, born July 6, 2010.

      (2) Emma Grace Jahn, born November 19, 2011.

      (3) Hayden James Jahn, born May 2, 2013.

   2. Aaron Michael, born October 19, 1980. Married Darci Perry, daughter of Dick and Nancy Perry. Aaron and Darci have two sons:

      (1) Blake Garett Jahn, born July 6, 2008.

      (2) Clay Joseph Jahn, born July 24, 2010.

   3. Lauren Emily, born October 5, 1986. Married May 5, 2012, to Ian Taylor.
